VIMS will be developed on par with AIIMS, says CM
The land allotment would be cancelled if the hospitals fail to open on scheduled time and the cancelled land would be given to other interested hospitals.
Visakhapatnam: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said the Visakha Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS) will be developed on the lines of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).
After inaugurating VIMS at Hanumanthawaka junction in the Health City here on Monday, the Chief Minister said the hospital which will soon have all the facilities, would benefit the people of north coastal Andhra, Odisha and Chhattisgarh who have been depending on King George Hospital and the other corporate hospitals in the city.
The 1300-bed hospital built in 99 acres of land with an estimated cost of Rs 565 crore has 15 blocks spread over 18 lakh square feet. “The government will develop this hospital as per the global standards,’’ the CM assured the gathering. He said 35 corporate hospitals are coming up in the Health City and of them 10 would be opened shortly and the government has been asking the managements of remaining hospitals to start their services early. The land allotment would be cancelled if the hospitals fail to open on scheduled time and the cancelled land would be given to other interested hospitals.
Soon after opening the hospital, the Chief Minister went round the wards and inspected the in-patient wards. The officer on special duty (OSD) Dr PV Sudhakar explained to the Chief Minister on the services to be provided immediately to the patients and the immediate requirements.
The Chief Minister assured the OSD that equipment worth Rs 9 crore would be sent by AP Medical Services Infrastructure Development Corporation. Local MP Dr K Haribabu said he would sanction two ambulances with his MPLAD funds. Central Ministers Bandaru Dattatreya and M Venkaiah Naidu, Ministers Ganta Srinivasa Rao, Kamineni Srinivas, K Atchannaidu, Ch Ayyanna Patrudu and local officials were present.
