Amaravati: APCC chief N Raghuveera Reddy on Wednesday demanded an inquiry into attack on minority students in the State. He alleged that 63 students had committed suicide after TDP and BJP ascended to power. Reddy, along with MLC C Ramachandraiah, former Union minister Killi Krupa Rani, AICC leader Koppula Raju, former MLA Malladi Vishnu, consoled the parents of Sibar Dental College student Imran Khan who had committed suicide in February alleging harassment from the authorities.

The Congress leaders extended solidarity with the bereaved family, which was undertaking relay hunger fast at the Collectorate, demanding justice. Holding N Chandrababu Naidu government responsible for the death of students on campuses, he said: “It is shame on his (Naidu) part to celebrate birthday when Imran Khan’s parents are crying for their lost son.”

Demanding action against the college’s authorities, who were allegedly responsible for Imran Khan’s death, the Congress chief announced that the party would soon launch a massive agitation in favour students with AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi leading it from the front. Imran Khan, who hails from Khammam in Telangana, was pursuing MD in medicine from Sibar Dental College in Guntur.

He had committed suicide in Maharashtra in January after he was allegedly harassed by his research guide and faculty members at the college. The college authorities were accused of demanding huge money from Imran to help him pass in the exams. It is believed Imran unable to bear the harassment, immolated himself near Mumbai-Pune Express Highway in Maharashtra.
