Prasad’s associates Deputy Floor Leader Suresh Babu and First Ward Councilor Gunja Rambabu intervened and strongly objected to the TDP members’ stand.
Vuyyur: Pandemonium prevailed in Vuyyur Municipal Council meeting here on Saturday with the ruling and the Opposition members indulging in heated exchanges over alleged loot of public funds. Members resorted to shouting during the heated discussion presided over by Chairman Jumpana Purnachandra Rao.
Trouble arose when Telugu Desam members P Sudharani and K Venkatalakshmi objected to YSRCP floor leader Vangaveeti Srinivasa Prasad’s allegation of misuse of funds. This led to a heated and acrimonious debate. Prasad’s associates Deputy Floor Leader Suresh Babu and First Ward Councilor Gunja Rambabu intervened and strongly objected to the TDP members’ stand.
Srinivas Prasad contended that he had spoken truth. While asserting that he had a right to raise the issue of misuse of public funds, he advised Sudharani not to intervene in issues which don’t concern her.
There was also a row over the expenditure incurred at the inauguration of the municipal office building, leading to trading of charges by members of the two parties. This resulted in shouting and tension. Calm was restored after the 17th ward Councillor Shaik Khaleel interevened and pacified the members. Addressing the meeting, Srinivasa Prasad questioned the Town Planning supervisor why the department officials were keeping the regularisation applications under the BPL scheme pending. He sought to know how people in rural areas would be able to construct houses if permissions were not given.
The YSRCP leader wanted to know why the District Collector did not write to the department when the Revenue officials did not issue NOCs. He suggested to the officials to sanction plans without causing any hardship to house-owners. Srinivasa Prasad suggested that quotations be called for taking up every work and that it be allotted to the lowest bidder who agrees to follow the regulations so as to prevent misuse of public funds. He appealed for supply of drinking water through tankers.
Vice-Chairman Thummala Srinivasababu, Councilors Abdul Quddus, Khaleel, Bobboli Nagaraju, Rambabu,A Adilakshmi, T Jyoti, Razia Sultana, T Padma, P Vani, B Kalyani and co-opted members J Gurunadha Rao, Abdul Nazeer raised issue of water shortage in their wards.
