Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh Rythu Sangham (APRS) on Saturday demanded that the government should pay adequate compensation to the farmers, who suffered crop loss, due to unseasonal rain that lashed different parts of the State on Thursday and Friday. In a statement here, APRS president P Ramachandraiah and general secretary KVV Prasad said paddy, maize, chilli, mango, papaya, banana, betel leaf and other crops were damaged due to the unseasonal rain.

A compensation of Rs 50,000 per acre should be paid to horticulturists and Rs 25,000 to paddy, maize and chilli farmers for the crop loss incurred by them. The government should also announce an ex gratia of Rs 5 lakh for those who lost their lives in rain related incidents in Guntur and Chittoor districts, the APRS leaders said.
