Visakhapatnam: Former Speaker of erstwhile Andhra Pradesh Assembly Nadendla Manohar demanded the State government to cancel the GO Ms No. 97 meant for bauxite mining in the Agency areas. He urged the government to constitute the long pending Tribal Advisory Council.
Manohar after paying a three-day visit to the Agency areas, including Paderu, Chintapalli, Araku and Hukumpet, to examine the present health condition of those suffering from anthrax and the treatment available besides interacting with the locals about bauxite mining, returned to the city on Friday along with former Tribal Welfare Minister P Balaraju.
Addressing a press conference, along with Balaraju and other Congress leaders, Manohar alleged that the spread of anthrax is due to lack of timely action and asked the government to provide best medicare to all those suffering from anthrax. Referring to the bauxite mining in the Agency areas, he informed that the Congress party has secured necessary information how the TDP government was misleading the public with white paper which was released earlier.
Nadendla appealed to all irrespective of party affiliations to oppose bauxite mining in the Agency areas.
‘The Congress party will chalk out an action plan to oppose the bauxite mining after holding discussionos with party Vice- President Rahul Gandhi.
He also condemned the statement of Tribal Welfare Minister Ravela Kishore Babu who said recently that bauxite mining will be done with the consent of tribals. Former Minister P Balaraju and others were present.
