Nellore: State government issued GO 32 sanctioning works worth Rs 383.30 crore for 14 state-run varsities for upgrading their status. The order mentioned that the grant is very crucial for upgrading to NAAC accreditation and asked the varsities to utilise it for the same. The Roads and Buildings department will complete the works as executing agency. Nellore-based Vikrama Simhapuri University received Rs 21.76 crore for taking up various works. The works include shifting to new premises, hostel buildings, internal roads, library and others.

New varsities like Dr BR Ambedkar Varsity, Srikakulam will get Rs 33.45 crore, Rs 45.28 crore was allocated to Adikavi Nannaya University in Rajamahendravaram, Rs 40.86 crore for Krishna University in Machilipatnam and Rs 48.20 crore for Rayalaseema Varsity in Kurnool.

Old and established universities such as Andhra University will get Rs. 6.80 crore, Rs 7.20 crore was allocated to Sri Venkateswara University, Rs 20.50 crore for Acharya Nagarjuna University, Rs 57.70 crore for Sri Krishnadevaraya University, Rs 33.90 crore for Sri Padmavathi Mahila Viswavidyalayam, Rs 15.30 crore for JNTU-Kakinada, Rs 14.90 crore for Dravidian University and Rs 37.40 crore for JNTU-Anantapuram.
