Chirala: More than 150 weavers in Eepurupalem of Chirala mandal alleged that the government is playing with the lives of the poor
weavers and the announcement of loan waiver turned into a farce and false statement by the Chief Minister. Eepurupalem is a village
where hundreds of families of weavers and handloom workers live in.

Most of them are dependent on the master weavers for work and they are daily wage labourers. It is a regular practice for the workers to
get personal loans from the banks to meet the expenditure of raw materials. Weavers from Eepurupalem took loans from Bank of India in
Chirala.

The TDP had promised to waive the loans of the weavers once it came to power. Chandrababu Naidu announced that his government will
waive off the loans of weavers. But on Saturday, about 150 weavers received pre-litigation notices issued by the bank at the mandal legal
services authority.
