Anantapur: Information and IT Minister Palle Raghunatha Reddy hailed the newly launched 'Chandranna Bima Scheme' as a boon for the poorer sections of the society as the government would pay the entire premium on behalf of the beneficiary. He said Rs 5 lakh would be given to the family in case of accidental death of the bread winner, Rs 3.62 lakh to those severely injured in an accident and Rs 30,000 for the natural death.

Addressing a review meeting at Venugopal Nagar here on Tuesday, Palle said, “About 15 lakh people will stand to benefit from the scheme in the State. The government will pay a premium of Rs 134.50 and all that the beneficiary has to pay towards application processing charges is Rs 15.”

He said, “Eligibility for beneficiaries is a monthly income of Rs 15,000. Also, the government is providing a scholarship of Rs 1,200 per year for students.” The Minister appealed to people's representatives to take the lead in popularising the scheme. Applications are available at all the gram panchayat offices.
