In this backdrop, some corporators have begun lobbying for Mayor’s post and collecting the signatures of corporators in support for the removal of the Mayor.  

Vijayawada: Mayor Koneru Sridhar who enjoyed supremacy in the council with a comfortable majority for two years is now facing rebellion from his own party men. Some senor corporators belonging to same caste are intensely lobbying to dethrone the Mayor citing the reasons that the Mayor is ignoring the corporators of the same party and taking decisions independently. The Vijayawada Municipal Council is going to complete two years soon. In this backdrop, some corporators have begun lobbying for Mayor’s post and collecting the signatures of corporators in support for the removal of the Mayor.

The Telugu Desam is enjoying absolute majority with 38 corporators in the council. Some senior corporators are unhappy with the attitude of Mayor for a long time. The recent North Indian tour of city corporators has given a good chance to the Mayor’s opponents to discuss the issue in depth.
The Mayor’s opposition camp has decided to dethrone him with the support of two city MLAs. They are consulting the MLAs and requesting them to give support for the change of Mayor. On the other hand, Mayor’s supporters are also trying to save him and intensely lobbying for the past few days. The two camps are busy with their lobbying.

Some corporators are eyeing for the post of Deputy Mayor and floor leader of the TDP. Gogula Venkata Ramana and G Haribabu are enjoying the two posts for two years. Deputy Mayor Gogula Venkata Ramana was elected from the Vijayawada Central constituency and floor leader Hari Babu was elected from Vijayawada West constituency. Mayor was elected from East Assembly constituency. Three important posts in the city have representation from the three Assembly segments.

Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu had chosen K Sridhar as the Mayor of city two years ago. Now, he is likely to take the decision on changing the Mayor. The opposition group is consulting the party senior leaders and Ministers to dethrone him.

Vijayawada has a history of two or three Mayors sharing five year term. The Communist parties first started the trend and later the Congress adopted it. Some senior Telugu Desam corporators want that the TDP should also implement the same policy and give a chance to other corporators to rule the city. But, only CM can take the decision on it.
