Srikakulam: Poor and unskilled youth are achieving financial sustainability by getting training in various self employment courses provided by Andhra Bank Institute of Rural Development (ABIRD). With an aim to provide skills to poor and unemployed youth Andhra Bank established training institute Andhra Bank Rural Self Employment Training Institute (ABESETI) in 2002 in Srikakulam town.

Since its establishment ABIRD has conducted 333 training programmes for youth free of cost including accommodation. Total 8,358 persons have been trained by the institute in 333 training programmes. Nearly 4061 men and 4297 women showed interest in utilising the opportunities to overcome their financial and educational barriers.

‘With an aim to develop skills and entrepreneurship attitude among poor and unskilled youth Andhra Bank established this institute as part of it we are providing training in various courses like dress designing, DTP, web designing, dairy farming, sheep rearing, soft toys making, beautician training and mesta (jute) products making said, Bagana Srinivasa Rao, director of ABIRD.

Duration of the courses vary from minimum one week to maximum 8 weeks. Poor, unemployed and unskilled youth above 18 and below 35 years are eligible to join in any of the training courses in ABIRD. I belong to a poor family and came to know about ABIRD and got trained here in dress designing. Now I am earning Rs 8,000 per month, said Anupoju Mangamma of Hudco Colony of Palasa town. Before joining ABIRD course I had no skills to earn money feed my family I got trained in computer DTP works and now I am getting a decent income every month, said Kalla Papa Rao of Silagam village in Kaviti mandal.
