Visakhapatnam: Arun Tiwari, Chairman and Managing Director of Union Bank of India visited GITAM University along with bank officials here on Saturday and accepted the proposal made by the university authorities to establish a study chair on Banking & Finance on the campus.

The Bank Chairman also inaugurated the girls hostel Nirmala Sadan along with GITAM president Dr MVVS Murthi. He delivered Distinguished CEO Lecture on ‘Role of Banking Sector in Economic Development’ and made a point that the public sector banks in the country were playing a key role in overall economic development.

He said that competition in banking sector was now bringing better services to the customers.

He detailed about the Union Bank of India’s success in various sectors. He also informed about the new trends in banking sector like mobile banking and internet banking.

He accepted the proposal to establish a research study chair in GITAM University and also shown interest to support GITAM Center for Gandhian Studies.

GITAM president Dr MVVS Murthi, in his speech, invited the UBI chairman to act as GITAM honorary faculty position after his retirement to share his experiences.

GITAM Chancellor Prof K Ramakrishna Rao and Vice-Chancellor Prof M Prasada Rao requested the UBI chairman to support the university to establish a training center in GITAM to train the human resource to meet the bank requirements.
