Vijayawada: TDP politburo member and MLC Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy questioned CBI courts over the delay in hearing cases pertaining to YSRCP chief Jaganmohan Reddy. He pointed out that the Supreme Court had made it clear that cases pending against MPs and MLAs should be cleared within a year or else the lower courts should take necessary permission from High Court to pursue the case.

Speaking to press persons here on Monday, Somireddy said that when a public interest foundation had filed a writ petition the apex court had directed that the trial against sitting MPs and MLAs should be concluded within a year - from the date of framing charges.
If lower courts fail to do so, he said they should submit a report to the chief justice of the High Court indicating special reasons for not adhering to the time limit and delay in conclusion of trial.

He pointed out that people had the right to question the legislature or judicial bodies when the cases on public representatives were delayed. The MLC said that the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate had filed cases against Jagan and made him A1 accused for misappropriating Rs 43,000 crore of public money.

“Even after four years the courts fail to complete the hearing. Why are the courts failing to honour the directions of the Supreme Court with regard to trial against public representatives?” he wondered. Had the courts completed the hearing of case against Jagan, he said the former would have been disqualified to contest elections and enter the State Assembly.

The TDP leader wondered how Jagan, with 11 cases pending against him and having served a jail term, was instigating people to attack Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu. Somireddy questioned why the state government was failing to take over Sakshi media for allegedly making negative propaganda against it. Though the TDP government had completed the land pooling in a transparent manner, he alleged that Sakshi was spreading canards.
