Visakhapatnam: Congress leaders have asked the President and Chief Election Commissioner of India to prevail upon the parties that came to power both at the Centre and the State to fulfil the promises made in their election manifestoes.

Addressing a press conference, Bolisetty Satyanarayana and former minister Pasupulate Balaraju told reporters on Thursday that the Supreme Court had directed the Election Commission to issue guidelines to all the political parties with regards to their manifestos.

The Supreme Court felt that making promises on “freebies” cannot be left unpunished. Satyanarayana said Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu resorted to torturing Mudragada Padmanabham and his family for asking the fulfilment of the promises made by Naidu.

He said the Chief Minister also failed to keep the promises made to farmers, Dwacra women, fishermen and unemployed youth.
Former MLC Revu Ratnakumari said the Chief Minister on the dais of Praja Garjana on March 27, 2014 (before elections) promised the fisherfolk community that he would include the community in STs if they voted him to power. She reminded that major victims of Hudhud were fisherfolk and those living in slums.

Former minister Pasupulate Balaraju said Tribal Advisary Council was not formed yet since all the elected MLAs in the agency belonged to Opposition parties.
