Visakhapatnam: The Southwest Monsoon has finally covered entire Andhra Pradesh on Saturday, ending a prolonged dry spell. The monsoon has also covered Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal and some parts of Vidarbha and Jharkhand. Conditions are favourable for the further advancement of monsoon over other parts as well.

During the last 24 hours, moderate to heavy rains have been witnessed over coastal Andhra Pradesh. Since 8:30 am on Friday, Machilipatnam recorded a rainfall of 47.3 mm, Vijayawada 44 mm, Kakinada 5.7 mm, Kurnool 5.9 mm and Ongole 2 mm.

It can be attributed to the cyclonic circulation which is currently over Odisha and adjoining Bay of Bengal. The system has moved towards inland and is likely to affect interior parts of the State as well. Rains are expected to continue over the region for another two days.

Subsequently, rain intensity will decrease over coastal parts of Andhra Pradesh but Rayalaseema will continue to receive light to moderate rain at many places.
