Jammalamadugu (Kadapa): Irregular attendance of government medical officers (Ayurvedic), apathetic attitude towards patients and playing with their lives by dispensing time-barred medicines signifies the pathetic conditions of Government Ayurvedic Dispensary here.

The medical officers attend to their duty at the hospital at their will and mark attendance in the register according to their convenience.
When The Hans India visited the dispensary around 11 am on Thursday, he found a lone employee–sweeper Fatima–going about her work dutifully. Patients from Dommara Nandyala village in Mylavaram mandal have been waiting for the medical officer to arrive and treat them.

An irate medical officer, Dr Surya Kumari, who was apprised of the correspondent’s visit, rushed to her seat. When asked, she said that her place of working is Proddatur and maintained that she was made in-charge for the dispensary here. Quoting her department’s Regional Director, Surya Kumari said that she was asked to come to the dispensary here as and when she feels free to go over here. Therefore, she told The Hans India that she will visit here according to her convenience.

When asked about drugs and disposables available in the dispensary, she said that drugs were supplied to the dispensary a year ago. Since then there has been no supply, she added. When she was asked, “Does prescribing the time-barred medicines not harm the patients?” she replied, “We have stocks of only these medicines and whatever drugs the dispensary has in store it will dispense the same to patients.”

Attendance was marked against her name in the register on June 13. Since then, she did not visit the dispensary till today. Whatever is the cause, the hospital is in the most deplorable condition.

The discourteous behaviour of medical officer is self-evident through her attitude. It was high time the higher authorities opened their eyes and ensured that the medical officers shed their lackadaisical attitude towards patients. When The Hans India tried to reach Regional Director Venkataramana Naik over telephone, the telephone was out of order.
