Groundwater levels increased in many parts of Krishna district due to excess rainfall recorded in more than 40 mandals of the district since June 1. The district people are desperately waiting for the rains this month due to prolonged dry spell conditions since May last year.

The district also recorded less rainfall last year leading to falling of groundwater levels in many parts. The groundwater department is collecting water levels every day and submitting to the government. In Krishna district, Piezo meters are installed at 108 places to collect the water levels.

According administration, the district registered 24.5 cm average rainfall against the 9.4 cm normal average rainfall from June 1 to 29. (Normal rainfall is calculated on the history of 15 years rainfall).The district recorded 160 per cent extra rainfall this season till now.
People will be benefited with the excess rainfall this season.

In Koduru mandal groundwater levels increased from 12.97 feet to 7.57 feet during the last 28 days. Koduru is located in the sea shore area where salinity is very high. The increased groundwater levels will be useful to the people. In Bapulapadu mandal, groundwater levels increased from 24.4 feet to 18 feet due to the rains.

In Buddhavaram village of Gannavaram mandal, water levels improved from 18.1 feet to 14 feet. Gannavaram mandal also recorded excess rainfall this season. Groundwater levels increased from 16.33 feet to 5.07 feet in Takkellapadu village of Jaggaiahpet mandal. Jaggaiahpet mandal witnessed severe scarcity of water last summer as water levels dropped to more than 17 feet.

In Musunuru mandal, which is notorious for dropping of groundwater levels, also benefited with the rainfall this month. Water levels increased from 73.2 feet to 53.9 feet in the last one month.

Meerzapuram village of Nuzvid mandal also benefited with the rains in the district. Water levels increased from 31.19 feet to 26.3 feet during the last one month. Chatrai, Agiripalli, Vissannapeta, Penuganchiprolu, Movva and other mandals benefited with the excess rainfall this month.
