Eluru: Upset over successive crop failure, a tenant farmer ended his life in a state of depression at Bandhamcharla village in T Narsapuram mandal of West Godavari district on Friday morning.

The police identified the deceased as Kotla Dharma Rao (44), a paddy grower. Sources said that Dharma Rao had taken land on lease and sowed paddy a couple of months ago. He suffered huge financial losses due to the failure of his crop for the second time due to extended dry spell.

He was terribly upset over the mounting financial problems and the future of his children, sources added. He committed suicide by consuming pesticide at a poultry farm. Although he was rushed to Chintalapudi Government Hospital, he breathed his last midway

A case was registered at T Narsapuram police station. His family members also cited crop failure for the
extreme step.
