Eluru: Mayor Sheikh Noorjahan said that an action plan was submitted to the Centre with an outlay of Rs 696 crore to develop Eluru as a smart city.

On completion of two years in office, cooption member S M R Pedababu and Municipal commissioner Y Sai Srikanth presented a bouquet to the Mayor and congratulated her. Women corporators too felicitated the Mayor at Municipal Corporation office here on Sunday.

Speaking on the occasion, the Mayor said due to paucity of funds, development of the city was halted. She said though Eluru was not included in the first list for smart cities, it was included subsequently in the list due to the efforts of MP Maganti Venkateswara Rao and MLA Badeti Kota Rama Rao.

Speaking further, Noorjahan said Eluru, the rapidly developing city with a population of over three lakh, would be developed as a smart city. She said that they have taken on the mantle of developing infrastructure and other amenities in the city. She said that they were working on various projects to develop Eluru as a smart city.

The Mayor said that the Corporation had given priority to infrastructure development. She said that the State government had been wholeheartedly supporting the endeavours of the Corporation. It may be recalled here that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu had several times said that he was very fond of West Godavari district where the party won a landslide victory, leaving no seat for the Opposition.

Corporators Gadi Nagamani, Paladugu Deepthi, Edpuganti Swarooparani, Betha Padmavathi, Maganti Durgavani, Nerusu Suguna, Nirmala Kumari and others garlanded the Mayor. Later, the Mayor and other corporators released a booklet on the achievements of Eluru Municipal Corporation in the last two years on the occasion.
