Madanapalle (Chittoor): The labourer parents of a girl student on Monday approached the Madanapalle court with a plea to allow her mercy killing (euthanasia) as she suffers from deadly blood cancer.

The couple, Rayipeta Narayana and Syamala of Vijayanagar Colony, here, who have also a son, contended that as they have no financial ability to afford her treatment and can’t bear to see her suffering, the court may permit them to end the life of one of their two daughters, Madhavi.
Their plea caused sensation here. Madhavi, who is studying intermediate first year, has been suffering from blood cancer for the last one year. Her parents took her to hospitals in Bengaluru, Tirupati and Hyderabad, which said she had no hope of survival.

The parents told The Hans India that they have been leading anxious life unable to see Madhavi’s health deteriorating daily. “She is fast losing weight,” they added. The couple quoted doctors at Bengaluru as saying that her operation would cost Rs 6 lakh, which they can’t afford to spend.

“Hence we have approached the court allow us to kill her,” Narayana said, reflecting on his sad plight of not being able to do anything even after seeing his daughter virtually on death bed. The colony residents have been deeply moved to tears, seeing the couple suffer silently.
