Eluru: The State government would disburse enhanced honorarium to anganwadi workers from July 11 across the State, said Women and Child Welfare Minister Peethala Sujatha here on Saturday.

Addressing the media at her camp office at Sanivarapupeta, the Minister said that the State government earlier announced the enhancement of wages to 1.04 lakh anganwadi workers and teachers from April 1. Due to the enhancement, the State government would have to bear an additional burden of Rs 420 crore, she added.

The Minister said that 55,667 anganwadi centres are functioning under 257 ICDS projects throughout the State and added that about 48,770 anganwadi workers, 6,837 mini-anganwadi workers and 48,770 babysitters are working in these centres.

The Minister also assured that the government would pay arrears of three months to the anganwadi workers and teachers. She said that the salaries of anganwadi workers would be enhanced to Rs 7,000 from Rs 4,200 and the salaries of mini-anganwadi workers would be enhanced to Rs 4,500 from Rs 2,950.

She said the anganwadi babysitters will receive an enhanced monthly wage of Rs 4,500. The Minister said that the State government took steps to construct 7,000 anganwadi buildings and already approved the construction of 5,000 buildings.
