Srikakulam: A round-table held here on Sunday with participation of all BC, SC and ST associations under the leadership of TDP district publicity secretary and BC, SC, ST Associations’ JAC convener SV Ramana Madiga demanded that the government reserve the first mayor post of Srikakulam Municipal Corporation for SCs.

Speaking on the occasion, Intellectual Forum convener and retired district judge P Jagannadha Rao, TDP district general secretary B Govindarajulu and YSRCP leader R Suryaprakash said that SCs were not given proper representation so far in Srikakulam municipality, which was formed in 1856 by the British and elected bodies started ruling since 1906. From 1906 to 2010, a total 23 persons served as municipal chairmen. Of them, 18 belonged to OCs and five belonged to BCs, they explained. Recently, Srikakulam was upgraded as Municipal Corporation and the first mayor post should be allotted for SCs to honour them, they opined.

Leaders of various BC, SC, ST community associations B Narasimhulu, P Chandrapathi Rao, K Venu and others explained the need of reservation for SCs in Srikakulam for their political progress.
