The leaders of YSR Congress, Congress, CPI, CPM and representatives of the farmers associations addressed a joint meeting here.
Speaking at the meeting, YSR Congress leader and former Minister Dharmana Prasada Rao, came down heavily on the government for proposing to take 1.05 lakh acres from 29 villages around Machilipatnam.

He said that the proposal would deprive thousands of people of their livelihood. He said that the YSR Congress would support them in their fight against the land acquisition. He felt that the government should follow the Land Acquisition Act 2013 and should not adopt land pooling.

Former Minister Vadde Sobhanadreeswara Rao found fault with the government for proposing to acquire 22,000 acres exclusively for the port. He said several sea ports in the country were built in 2,000 acres of land and wondered why this government was looking for 22,000 acres. He wanted the people to oppose the land acquisition that would displace thousands of families.

CPM secretary P Madhu and CPI secretary K Ramakrishna, Congress leader C Ramachandraiah, former MLC Jelli Wilson, CPI-M leader Y Venkateswara Rao, CPIML Liberation leader D Harinath and others pledged to stand by the people and fight against the land acquisition proposal.

They asked the government to stop the move to take lands from the farmers in the name of port. They wanted the government to utilise the existing 2,500 acres of government land available for the port. They reiterated that the parties would fight for the rights of people and protect their lands.
