Vijayawada: Even before the public could get over with the news of rodents killing a newborn in government hospital at Guntur, the government hospital in the city was in the news, as a six-day-old baby kept in the incubator went missing on Thursday.

The baby, who was admitted to the hospital following sudden illness, was stolen from the hospital, raising doubts over safety measures of the hospital.

According to sources, Kalyani and Subramanyam of Ramvarappadu, were blessed with a baby boy six days ago. As the boy developed fever, his parents admitted him to the government hospital on Wednesday.

The hospital staff conducted medical tests and declared that the boy was suffering from jaundice. They told parents that the boy needs to be kept in an incubator in the highly secured neonatal wing.

On Thursday afternoon, mother Kalyani, who was earlier denied entry into neonatal wing, was asked to feed the baby. Kalyani, who went to feed the baby, found out that the baby was missing. She immediately alerted the staff and enquired other women about the missing of the child, who said that an unidentified lady took the boy and went away.

Much to the agony of parents, the hospital which has two CC Cameras were not functioning on the fateful day, thereby, leaving no clues to identify the accused.

Meanwhile, Health Minister Kamineni Srinivas spoke to the authorities concerned and ordered an inquiry into the issue. He demanded that the DMHO prepare a detailed report on the missing of infant. Sub-Collector G Srujana visited the hospital and enquired about the incident.

She comforted the parents by assuring them of taking action against the accused. Police registered a case and began questioning the security personnel.
