Inland waterways, ports development to get boost
The State government will be promoting inland waterways and port development in the State in a big way. The government had signed a MoU with the Maritime Technology University at St. Petersburg, the other day in the presence of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.
Vijayawada: The State government will be promoting inland waterways and port development in the State in a big way. The government had signed a MoU with the Maritime Technology University at St. Petersburg, the other day in the presence of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.
The MoU would help both the State government and the university to exchange technology and expertise, including exchange of teaching and technical staff. The MoU also helps both parties to share teaching material, equipment, promote e-learning technology and share research.
Above all, the State government is planning to introduce ship building and ocean engineering in selected government schools and colleges.
The government is also eying on getting some regular share in admissions into the university for AP students from the next academic year.
The government also plans to organise ship building and ocean engineering seminars across the State to create awareness among students to take up the course.
This would also help in promoting the ports in the State and opening them to the world for cargo transportation.
“We are planning to use the expertise of the university to promote ship building activity and inland water ways, besides creating awareness among students in the State on the subject,” the Chief Minister said after signing the agreement.
He had also directed the Economic Development Board that had signed the MoU to involve all the engineering colleges in the State to have technical sessions with the Maritime University and introduce the courses here.
