Chittoor: The APSRTC is offering several innovative schemes for the commuters to ply on RTC buses, said G Gajalakshmi, Chittoor depot manager. Awareness will be created among the drivers and conductors in averting accidents in the jurisdiction of Chittoor depot.

The RTC has decided to achieve zero per cent accident rate in the depot during the year to attract more commuters, she informed. Though rate of accidents in the depot has come down drastically due to stringent steps initiated by the Managing Director of APSRTC, steps should be taken to achieve zero accident rate, said the Chittoor depot manager.

Accidents occurring due to lack of awareness among the people and drivers. Hence, the APSRTC has decided to organise ‘Zero Accident Free Week’ in the depot involving the public, police and transport authorities, she added Addressing the employees and the commuters at a meeting at Chittoor APSRTC depot here on Sunday, she said that accidents can be prevented if the drivers follow the guidelines and traffic rules besides the cooperation of the public. She said that the APSRTC has proposed to take out rallies and hold public meetings at the villages and mandals to create awareness among the people on the accidents. The corporation is committed to cater to the needs of rural commuters by operating buses to the rural habitations despite incurring losses, she said.
