Tirupati: Following complaints, municipal corporation personnel on Tuesday demolished the constructions on the terraces of some of the houses in Daminedu Housing Colony, near Tiruchanur, 5 km from here. About 1,000 houses (G+2) were constructed in Daminedu under government’s housing programme for weaker sections and were allotted to homeless poor living in the pilgrim city ten years back.

However, over the years, some of the beneficiaries took up unauthorised semi-permanent rooms on the terraces for their living while some letting them out on rent, against rules which recently came to the notice of the corporation.

Following the direction of municipal corporation commissioner, the engineering and city planning wing personnel took up the demolition of 40 rooms on the terraces in the colony.
