Visakhapatnam: The Public Accounts Committee led by Chairman P Rajendranath Reddy visited King George Hospital and Victoria General Hospital here on Tuesday.

The members interacted with the superintendents, doctors and administrative staff and took note of the functioning of these two hospitals. They enquired about the problems being faced by the doctors as well as patients to make recommendations to the government.
Later, talking to the reporters at King George Hospital, the Chairman said that the committee is reviewing the functioning of these hospitals in order to make suitable recommendations for the welfare of the people.

He said that King George Hospital, the biggest hospital in the region, catering to the people of north Andhra as well as Odisha and Chhattisgarh and having a bed strength of 1400, has not added an extra doctor since decades though the number of patients has increased manifold.

The Chairman said that he advised the KGH management to open outpatient ward in the super specialty wings six days in a week instead of three days for which the committee would make recommendations to the government.

However, they expressed unhappiness the way Victoria General Hospital was being managed. The Chairman was upset when he was told demolition of an old building is pending since years.

This was delaying the new project for which funds have been sanctioned.Hospital doctors told the committee that 350 to 450 outpatients were visiting the hospital every day and performing 7,000 deliveries per annum.
