​Visakhapatnam: The great poet Padma Bhushan Gurram Jashuva had fought against social evils like caste discrimination and corruption to help establish a caste-less society through his writings, Social Welfare Minister Ravela Kishore Babu said.

Paying floral tributes after garlanding the statue of Jashuva here at the R K Beach road on Sunday to mark his 45th death anniversary, the Minister said that Jashuva had inspired the society with his writings focusing on the ideology and aspirations of Dr B R Ambedkar.

He recalled that the State government had celebrated the birth anniversary of Jashuva in Vijayawada as an official function and also set up Jashuva Kala Peetham.

He called upon the upcoming writers to imbibe the aspirations of the great writer for the good of the society.

At another meeting held by Ghantasala Sports and Cultural Association, Andhra University vice-chancellor Prof G Nageswara Rao said that the great writer Jashuva’s literary works- Gabbilam and Phiradousi- will be everlasting in inspiring the society.

He said that Jashuva had waged a war against social evil-caste discrimination with his literary works.
