Kurnool: District in-charge Minister K Atchannaidu assured farmers of adequate water for irrigation purposes. He said water was being released from Hundri Neeva Canal from Friday onwards.

Speaking at the general body meeting at the Zilla Parishad, he said: “Farmers need not worry as there is adequate flood water available in the district.” The Minister said that the government had successfully provided seeds, fertilisers and bank loans for farmers to get good returns.

On Pushkaralu, he said that the government would act tough against contractors who do not adhere to quality in execution of Pushkar works. “The erring contractors would be put on blocklist, and the government would collect a huge penalty from them,” he warned.

While exuding confidence that all arrangements were in place for the 12-day mega event, he urged public at large to report to the authorities if they found out any discrepancy in arrangements and quality of work.

Zilla Parishad chairman Mallela Rajasekhar Goud appealed to public to support the government in conducting Pushkaralu without any hassle.

Panyam MLA Gowru Charitha Reddy urged the authorities concerned to release compensation promised to farmers who had lost their crops due to untimely rains.

District Collector Challa Vijay Mohan said around 6,000 staff was deployed to complete the ghat works - three at Sangameswaram and four at Srisailam. He predicted that about five lakh devotees would take a holy dip in the district during Pushkaralu.
