Tirupati: The world-famous pilgrim city has been plagued by lack of proper sanitation facilities. Every year, 30 million tourists visit the city. Providing toilet facilities for all the visitors became a herculean task for Tirupati Municipal Corporation officials. Against this backdrop, the authorities stumbled upon the idea of installing e-toilets for public usage, that were already in vogue in major cities and towns across the country.

In line with Swachh Bharat Mission, the authorities decided to install unmanned and automated e-toilets. The authorities installed a total of 15 e-toilets, of which three are she-toilets (for females), one for the differently-abled and two units for schoolchildren.

Speaking to The Hans India, Municipal Corporation Commissioner V Vinaychand said that e-toilets have significantly addressed the sanitation needs of the city. “I appreciate Eram for addressing the public sanitation needs.

The e-toilets manufactured by Eram, pre-fabricated public toilets made of stainless steel are integrated with user-friendly electronic interfaces to ensure cleanliness and hygiene to every user.

He said that e-toilets have revolutionised the very basic concept of public toilets in our country. He was all praise for the material used to build e-toilets.

Explaining further, he said e-toilets are programmed to turn on the lights and a fan when a user enters, flush 1.5 litres of water after the first three minutes and 4.5 litres after a little longer and clean the floor after every 10 users.

He said the e-toilet features self-cleaning mechanism, such as automatic pre-flush, automatic after-flush, automatic platform cleaning, automatic lights and exhaust fan.

Admitting that there was insufficiency and inadequacy of public toilets, Vinaychand said e-toilets have helped the city to effectively deal with sanitation issues.

He further said that she-toilets have been of great help for women. He said that these women-friendly e-toilets completely addressed the hygiene as well as privacy issues often faced by women in public. The she-toilets are equipped with extra napkin vending machines and incinerators to dispose used ones, he added.
