Vijayawada: Dr NTR University of Health sciences filled up 667 ‘B’ category MBBS seats as per the National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET) norms here on Sunday amidst tight security. Students, who attended to the MBBS and BDS counselling and their parents continued protests on the second day, opposing the implementation of NEET rules.
The protesting students and parents argued with university authorities and demanded that the counselling to be cancelled. They raised slogans and tried to stall the counselling.The parents demanded the varsity authorities to conduct counselling based on Article 361(D) of Presidential Orders to fill ‘B’ category medical and dental seats. The parents said that ‘B’ category seats allotted to the students of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Jammu & Kashmir only.
The counselling process was delayed about three hours and resumed after the varsity authorities called in police. Efforts of registrar Dr S Appala Naidu and counseling convener Dr Jaya Ramesh to convince parents were in vain. Parents alleged that varsity officials sold the seats to other State students for crores rupees.
They demanded the varsity to introduce local and non-local reservations for medical, dental seats. However, the varsity authorities rejected the demand stating Supreme Court directives state that local and non-local reservations were not applicable. Regarding the MBBS seats, on first day total 667 medical sets were filled up.
