Vijayawada: The pulmonary department in Government General Hospital (GGH) is all set to move to the new government hospital at
Gunadala. Superintendent of GGH is holding talks with the pulmonologists and planning to shift soon. However, the dilemma of shifting
still exists in the officials of health department.

The pulmonary medicine block at old government hospital is in dilapidated condition and the staff is facing hard time in treating the
patients. The department has also decided to stop the admissions of patients after a series of mishaps like falling of ceiling in the recent
times. The existing building is in a dilapidated condition, which may collapse at any time on the staff and patients. Interestingly, the old
building occupies huge space in the old GGH.

The Health department has made efforts in making repairs to the structure and drainage system. However, those repairs have no use
either to staff or patients. Finally, the hospital management has decided to get the funds on the account of Pushkaralu and make the
primary works like constructing a new drainage system but due to lack of support from government bodies, the works are not started.

After the decision of stopping the admissions of patients, the officials of health department made a move in the shifting of pulmonary
medicine to New GGH located in Gunadala.

Earlier, the officials had thought of shifting it to Rajeevnagar hospital. The staff has objected it and showed no interest to move as it is
located quite far from the city. The pulmonary department is going to move in new GGH hospital within a week.

According to the norms of Medical Council of India (MCI), the pulmonary department should have at least 30 to 40 beds. Due to the lack
of space at the new GGH, the department would have only 20 beds with a space of two rooms. The out-patient ward is going to be in the
down stairs and in-patient ward in the first floor. The department officials have to modify the ward as per the needs.

The Superintendent of GGH, Dr Jaganmohan Rao said that the shifting of the pulmonary medicine department is the prime challenge
before health department and the admissions will resume after making necessary arrangements.

On the delay in shifting, he said it was because of pulmonary, which was contagious one. He also said that precautions would be taken in
setting up of infrastructure.

“The basic need of pulmonary medicine is to have a separate oxygen line as some of the patients require a 24-hour oxygen supply. We
are quite very happy with the shifting as the spooky drama of dilapidated building is going to end,” said a doctor of pulmonary medicine.
