Chittoor: Christian Medical College and Hospital (CMC), Vellore, is the famous super specialty hospital which is 35 km from Chittoor. The CMC has come forward to set up its wing in Chittoor city long ago with an objective of facilitating its medical and academic services to Andhra Pradesh. The then Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy had issued order No.319 on March 26, 2006 for allocating 640 acres of government land for CMC.
The CMC had entered into an agreement with the Andhra Pradesh government that it would establish a medical college and recruit faculty for under graduate and post graduate courses in medical college.

It also assured that it would open nursing, dental and health colleges apart from medical college in Chittoor. As part of its agreement, the CMC had remitted Rs 6.4 crore to the District Collector towards the nominal cost of 640 acres of government land which has a market value of Rs 450 crore. But the CMC Hospital has reportedly violated the terms and conditions in constructing its full- fledged wing in Chittoor during the past 10 years.

Speaking to The Hans India, Minister for Health Kamineni Srinivas during his visit to Chittoor on Thursday regretted the indifferent attitude of the authorities of CMC: “We allocated Rs 700 crore worth 640 acres of government land to CMC 10 years ago. As per the agreement, it should construct a full-fledged CMC Hospital in Chittoor within three years. However, the CMC has failed to keep up its promise and constructed a few sheds in the proposed CMC premises”. He made it clear that the Andhra Pradesh government would not keep mum in this regard and take necessary action at higher level.

When the purpose of allocating such an huge extent of land at nominal price to the CMC is not served the purpose, the Minister felt that the government would not hesitate to take back the land from the CMC. He said that he would give due instructions to District Medical Officer, Chittoor, to send him a comprehensive report on the issue whether the CMC is interested to construct its parallel unit in Chittoor in near future or not.
