Eluru: After nearly a month of warning from Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, the officials have taken up cleansing works of Tammileru rivulet which flows around the Eluru city and began removal of garbage and horseshoe in the rivulet.

It may be mentioned here that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu during his visit to Eluru city to inaugurate war against the mosquitoes programme, inspected the Tammileru rivulet and directed officials to clean it as it could lead to breeding of mosquitoes and pollution, resulting in illness to citizens.

Upon his directions, District Collector K Bhaskar held a review meeting last month and directed water resources, municipal and other officials, to take up necessary steps for cleansing it. He also directed them to remove all encroachments obstructing the free flow of water in the rivulet, besides construction of footpath on the banks of the rivulet Following repeated directions from the collector, the officials visited the rivulet at Sanivarapupeta causeway on Wednesday.

The Municipal commissioner Y Saye Srikanth, Irrigation Executive Engineer R Satish Kumar, Superintending Engineer KJH Upendra Singh, Deputy Executive Engineer Seshagiri Rao, Assistant Executive Engineer Murali observed the flow of the rivulet at the causeway. The rivulet was filled up with the horseshoe and garbage in this area and the officials directed the staff to take steps for the removal of the obstructions in the rivulet. They also visited the bifurcation point at FCI godowns, where the rivulet gets separated in two flows.

The officials after visiting Balayogi bridge in RR Peta observed that an iron mesh has to be arranged to the bridge connecting the approach roads on both sides to curb people from throwing garbage into the rivulet.

The Eluru Commissioner Y Saye Srikanth directed the staff to create awareness among people in the surrounding areas of the Tammileru rivulet to maintain cleanliness and directed them to remove wasteful plants on the rivulet bund.
