Visakhapatnam: Member of Legislative Council MVVS Sarma has demanded an inquiry into the bulk submission of voter enrollment during the last two days and a separate probe into 7,000 forms found on the table of RDO, purportedly submitted by a representative of chain of educational institutions, on November 5.

Addressing the media on Monday, Sharma said 48,000 voters were enlisted till November 3 and the figure had shot up to 1, 45,000 on the last day on November 5. “It is humanly impossible to scrutinize and acknowledge 1.45 lakh forms in just two days. It is surely a malpractice committed by the persons in power with the connivance of revenue officials,” said Sharma. Narrating the sequence of events on November 5, Sarma said that CPM leaders B Lokanadham and V Srinivasa Rao had gone to the office of the Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO) to submit voter forms when they found bundles of forms on the desk of the RDO.

When questioned, the officials present there had snarled at them but after SMSes were sent to Election Commission, the RDO feigned ignorance of the forms and asked officials to throw the forms out of his office and even advised the CPM leaders to burn them. “We burnt all the forms in full view of the media, police and public. Later an officer from the RDO registered a complaint of arson and violence and an FIR was booked against B Lokanadham and VV Srinivasa Rao under sections 452, 353, 379, 435 and 341 of IPC,” said Sarma. He questioned as to how the educational institutions group could have 7,000 graduates as claimed by its promoter when the century-old Andhra University itself had only 15,000 graduates. He said petitions have been sent to the election commissioners of AP and to the Centre seeking a probe into the mass enrollment.
