Visakhapatnam: The AP - Odisha police combine hounded, caught, tortured and killed the Maoists in different places during the three days of the encounter beginning from October 24, even children were not spared, according the activists of Coordination of Democratic Rights Organisation (CDRO). They refuted the DGP’s denial that Maoists were captured and killed.

Briefing the media contingent on the encounter, here on Tuesday, Prof S Sehaiah of Civil Liberties Committee and several other activists of CDRO, who went on a fact finding mission, said they visited the encounter site and interacted with the adivasis and family members of the four villages whose members were killed in the encounter.

Seshaiah said the Maoists called the villagers to attend the meeting convened to discuss their problems and some of the villagers attended the meeting, which is a local practice for years.

He narrated the tear-jerking story of father of Sindhe Khillo, who told the team about his daughter, who was gunned down. “He and his daughter left to buy groceries on the fateful day.

After purchase, the father left for home and Khillo attended the meeting. On next morning after hearing gunshots, the father searched the entire village and following day he went to Malkangiri where the police handed over the body of his daughter. The police conducted the post mortem without the consent of father,” he said.

Seshaiah said that two bullets pierced Khillo’s chest and one lodged in her leg. “Her father has to shell out Rs 10,000 to bring back her body. Same is the case with 16-year-old Jairam Khillo. He cannot be branded as hardcore activist,” Seshaiah said and added that 14-year-old Syamala Pangi too was shot in cold blood.

The pattern of bullet injuries show that the bullets were fired from close range and the police had no intention to arrest them but to kill them in cold blood,” he charged.

The team also met wife of Lycona Gollari who initially went missing but found locked in Malkangiri police station. Seshaiah said Sombla Gollari approached Malkangiri police when she heard that her husband was airlifted.

She saw with her own eyes the police pushing him out from the police van and bundled into the lock up. When she demanded his release or FIR be filed, the police told her not to worry since he was still alive.

Seshaiah said that rural SP of Visakhapatnam gave contradictory statements. “Initially he told that he had no information of Maoists meeting but later said the Odisha police gave concrete information on the meeting,” he averred.

He demanded a judicial inquiry by Supreme Court judge, apart from disbanding Greyhounds. He along with other activists also demanded compensation to the families of the deceased.Activists from Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Odisha and Telangana were present.
