Anantapur: The 100-year-old ‘The Anantapur Cooperative Town Bank Limited’ which is synonymous with the growth of the city has emerged as a city's lamp post and important land mark of the city along with the age-old Tower Clock. It is also a pre-independence era bank established in the year 1916 on February 14 and like a time capsule a mute witness to the development of the city in the sands of time.

The century-old bank founded by visionaries including Vakeelu Sreenivasulu, Chengalvarayasetty, Butna Gopalakrishna, Mandi Adinarayana, Kasunur Hussein Peera and Pinni Krishnamurthy. They had greatly contributed to the bank's development by laying a strong foundation for its progress and prosperity. The present chairman of the historical bank JL Muralidhar, a highly educated young economist, along with his progressive team of board of directors had in his first year of taking over as its chairman had mobolised Rs 120 crore deposits and also given loans worth Rs 79 crore.

The bank is now racing towards achieving Rs 500 crore deposits by expanding the bank branches from four to eight to achieve its ambitious target. The bank is celebrating its centenary on Sunday with a host of Ministers, high ranking State officials and dignitaries from among the cross section. Local MLA V Prabhakar Chowdary is the moving force behind the bank making rapid strides and in its quest to eternally establish itself as the people's bank.
