Visakhapatnam: Minister for Transport K Atchannaidu said that he impressed upon Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu to support loss-making APSRTC, as it has potential to make a turnaround. The minister, who was here on Sunday, flagged of Telugu Velugu bus services to 10 routes including Paderu, Narsipatnam-Mampa, Bakuru, Jolaput, Maredimilli, Gudem, Chintapalli, Seleru, Pedavalasa and Donkarai, which provide transport facility in 602 km in Agency areas.

Stating that these services were introduced to improve transport facility in Agency areas, he said that each bus costs Rs 25 lakh.“All the 10 buses are equipped with modern technology and can easily ply on ghat roads,” he added. Referring to the RTC incurring of losses to the tune of Rs 800 crore, the minister attributed it to the grant of 43 per cent of fitment allowance to employees, regularisation of more number of contract and outsourced workers and administrative lapses of the previous governments.

He said the existing Acts would be implemented in toto in a bid to develop the organisation. “We will replace old buses in a phased manner to curtail accidents,” he added. Later, the leaders of National Mazdoor Union felicitated the minister. RTC Visakha regional manager G Sudhesh Kumar, Vizianagaram zone executive director A Ramakrishna, rural divisional manager A Sudha Bindu and others were present.
