Kakinada: East Godavari district collector Kartieya Misra requested the officials of agriculture and irrigation departments to draw a plan to provide water for irrigation even to the tail-end areas in the district. While reviewing the progress of agriculture and irrigation department works at the collectorate here on Tuesday, the collector said that special thrust was required to augment water supply to these areas and this would be possible by taking up delta modernisation works, Neeru-Chettu and drain repairs.

With regard to increase of pulse production through area expansion and productivity enhancement, he requested them to adopt refined technologies .To provide technology to facilitate agriculture through efficient utilisation of inputs and timeliness of operations, selection of beneficiaries should be done immediately under farm mechanisation scheme. The collector also suggested them to finalise the district kharif action plan for 2017 by May 15.
Joint director of agriculture K S V Prasad explained the progress in the district that the district has attained second position in the state by producing 22.5 lakh tonnes of food grains per anum and the rabi production of paddy was 45 bags on an average per acre.While reviewing on ATMA works in the district, the collector said that pilot projects being implemented in the district should be easily extendable and be adopted by sizeable number of farmers.
While reviewing irrigation works, the collector suggested to them to take up execution of irrigation works during closure of canals and stressed the need of improving check-dams in the Agency area. B Rambabu, SE, irrigation circle, said that all the ayacut area in the district was provided with water for rabi While reviewing medical and health department activities at the collectorate, Kartikeya Misra directed the district medical and health officer (DMHO) to organise medical camps exclusively for employees of all departments in the district to prepare a health profile of all the employees.
These camps should be organised for preliminary check-up and suggested them to take the assistance of private doctors if required .Organising camps in the cities like Rajamahendravaram ,Amalapuram ,Tuni and other places for two to four days depending on the number of employees was also suggested by the collector. Mapping of villages where there was prevalence of malaria for the last five years in the agency mandals should be done to have greater focus in controlling malaria.
The collector also suggested them to increase ante-natal registration for improving the health of mother and child and to encourage institutional deliveries in the district. Controlling measures for swine flu, TB, HIV through creating more awareness was suggested by the collector in this meeting. He requested the doctors to make themselves available to the public. Joint collector-2 J Radha Krishna Murthy, district coordinator, medical and health services, Dr Ramesh Kishore, Additional DMHO Dr M Pavan Kumar, DIO, Dr Anitha and others attended.
