Visakhapatnam: Proud to be a blood donor as blood donation saves the life of a person, said tollywood actor Nani. All most all the city blood banks were facing an acute shortage of blood and it is the basic responsibility people to donate blood, he suggested.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, along with the representative of Vizag Development Council O Naresh Kumar and others representing JCI and Rotary Club of Visakhapatnam, Nani said both men and women can donate blood voluntarily without any hesitation. Allaying fears and myths prevailing among public on donation of blood, he said that soon after donation of blood, new blood would be generated and the donor will be hale and hearty.

Lamenting on 90 per cent of women suffering from low hemoglobin count, he suggested to them to take iron-rich meals with whole-egg omelets and iron-fortified cereals for breakfast, consume more leafy green vegetables in lunch and iron-rich snacks, dry-fruits like prunes, apricots, almonds and raisins.

Though majority of men, women and youth are interested in donating blood, they are not able to fulfil the social cause due to low hemoglobin count, the cine hero sensitised the public to maintain good health to help offer blood. It may be noted that Vizag Development Council take the initiative of sensitising the public especially youth by organising number of blood donation camps in the summer season
