Kurnool: Public Health department officials, led by city municipal corporation public health officers Dr Kalyanachakravarti and Dr Ravi, on Sunday conducted surprise raids on various establishments in the city and seized rotten meat from various chicken and mutton centres.

The officials pointed out that even goat kids are being killed by mutton traders where the demand for mutton is high. The rules specify that sheep, goats and chicken should be butchered at abattoirs and should obtain a certificate from abattoirs that hygiene standards are adhered to. But no meat seller is adhering to the standards. The meat has been seized and notices will be issued to the chicken and mutton centre owners for not following hygiene rules.
