Deputy Chief Minister KE Krishnamurthy said that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is keen to complete the construction of Gundrevula reservoir. The district will be relived from water scarcity once the project is completed, he added and assured of early completion.

The Deputy Chief Minister participated in a review meeting on drinking water scarcity and pending irrigation projects at State Guest House here on Thursday, in which District Collector S Satyanarayana, MLAs and officials concerned took part. Addressing the officials, Krishnamurthy instructed the officials of the Rural Water Supply (RWS) department to ensure water supply in villages facing scarcity.
He also directed the District Collector to sanction borewells for drinking water purpose if MLAs place the requests. He suggested taking up the works by classifying them into three categories like supplying water through tankers in drought-hit villages, digging of borewells where abundance of water is available and replacing damaged pipelines.
The Deputy Chief Minister asked the RWS Superintending Engineer to identify the availability of water resources for supplying drinking water to 145 villages which are reeling under severe drought. He directed the concerned officials to ensure availability of 1.26 tmcft water at Sunkesula Barrage for meeting drinking water needs of the city.
The Collector brought to the notice of the Minister that water is being supplied through tankers at 57 habitations and will accord permission for digging borewells. Rajya Sabha MP TG Venkatesh, Zilla Parishad chairman Mallela Rajasekhar, MLAs SV Mohan Reddy, Budda Rajasekhara Reddy, Gowru Charitha Reddy, BC Janardhan Reddy, Mani Gandhi, RWS Superintending Engineer Hari Babu, Irrigation Superintending Engineer, Chandrasekhar Rao and other engineering department officials attended the meeting.
