Instead it has turned a boon for the contractors and some politicos to earn good money as large scale irregularities have taken place in the scheme in Kadapa district.

Despite the issue raised by opposition MLAs during the general body meetings, in vain several times the administration has turned a blind eye at the behest of the ruling party in the district. According to the sources there was massive mishandling witnessed in the 18 silt removal works. Construction cost at Rs 1.10 crore taken up under Neeru-Chettu in Chapadu,

Morrayepalle, Godevanka, Alladupalle, Devalalu, Tippi Reddy palle Vedururu, Khadar palle, Nagayapalle , Sidha Reddy palle with substandard material led to farmers facing difficulties for performing agriculture operations.

According to the official sources under Neeru- Chettu scheme government has sanctioned total Rs 1.28 crore wroth check dam works at various places like from Tippi Reddy Palle stream to Vedururu, Anna varam, Yellagu Vanka, Bahdradri, Somapuram, Pedda vanka,. Dwaraka nagaram, Alladu palle etc villages. In a second phase Kethavaram, Sidha Reddy palle, Maduru, Gunthacheepadu,Badripale Obayeepalle etc 10 villages in the distsrict.

According to the sources a check dam which was constructed at the estimated cost of Rs 10 lakhs in Goderu stream at Badradripalle washed away within 6 months of its construction. Hence crops in 120 acres under Goderu stream were destroyed following the bunds that were breached. “Farmers in Badradripalle incurred huge crop losses as bunds breached three times in the last Kharif season” G.Ramasubba Reddy of Badradripalli told The Hans India.

In another incident, restoration of old check dam at Tippe Reddy palle taken up at Rs 10 lakh cost was not useful to the farmers instead the water is seen flowing on the roads following the increase of check dams height. When contacted irrigation official admitted that there were allegations in the check dam constructions as the enquiry is going on over irregularities taken place in proposed works. He said that a detailed report would be submitted to the government after the enquiry report is received.
