Politicising farmers’ issues not correct: Venkaiah Naidu

Vijayawada: The Union Minister for Urban Development, Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation and Information & Broadcasting, M. Venkaiah Naidu said on Thursday that the centre and states must come together to solve issues related to the agriculture sector. He said the agriculture related issues and problems do not arise suddenly and have been existing for a long time in the country.

He participated in a private programme in Gannavaram mandal and interacted with the media persons. Indirectly referring to the firing incident in which five farmers were killed in Madhya Pradesh and subsequent outcry taking place in the state and country the Union Minister has alleged certain vested interests are trying to instigate violence and create law and order problems.

He appealed to all sctions of the society to refrain from politicising the farmers’ issues. Venkaiah Naidu has said the NDA government is giving top priority to agriculture stating that during UPA government‘s rule from 2010-11 to 2013-14 the total budget allocation for agriculture was Rs. 1,04,337 Cr.

But, the present government has allocated Rs. 1, 64, 415 Crore from 2014-15 to 2017-18 which is 57.58 percent more, he added. He further said that The Union government is providing “Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana” for the welfare of the farmers. Naidu said that the union government has set a target to provide water facility to every field in 5 years with outlay of Rs. 50,000 crore under Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY).
