Vijayawada: District Collector B Lakshmikantham on Saturday directed the officials of the municipalities and panchayats to collect penalty from the people who dump and throw the garbage on the roads and create unhygienic conditions.
The Collector convened a meeting with the officials of municipalities, panchayat, medical and ICDS departments at Tummalapalli Kalakshetram and reviewed the sanitation and health issues in the district in view of monsoon.
Speaking on the occasion, the Collector said dumping the garbage on the roads and streets leads to many unhygienic conditions and outbreak of diseases and asked the officials to take preventive measures to check the menace of dumping garbage on the roads.
He said hygienic conditions should be created in the towns and villages. Referring to pre-schools, he asked the officials to take measures to convert the Anganwadi Centres in the district into pre-schools so that nursery, LKG and UKG classes can be started. The Collector said that measures are being taken for the construction of Anganwadi buildings in all villages.
He said the district administration is preparing to launch Anna Amruta Hastam in the district to provide meals to pregnant woman 25 days in a month. He said rice, dal, milk and egg would be given to lactating mothers and pregnant women in the district under the Anna Amrutha Hastam scheme.
He emphasised the need to increase the quality of medical services in the primary health centres and area hospitals in the district. District medical and health officer Dr T N V Sastry, district panchayat officer DCH Jyothirmai and officials from medical and health, PR, women and child welfare and others attended the meeting.
