Srikakulam: Round-the-clock hospital at G Sigadam mandal headquarters failed to save life of a seven-year-old boy, who died of snake bite.The primary health centre (PHC) at G.Sigadam has been declared as 24 hours hospital by the state government.

Seven-year-old Karagana Karthik of G Sigadam mandal centre was bitten by a poisonous snake on Sunday night. The boy was shifted to the 24 hours hospital by parents, where no medical staff and doctors were available at that time.

The worried patients again carried their boy to Rajam hospital in the meantime, Karthik died due to delay of medical aid after snake bite. On learning about the incident relatives of the deceased reached to 24 hours hospital on Monday and staged an agitation in front of it demanding stringent action against negligent medical officers and staff.

Mandal parishad president (MPP) P Mahalaxmi, tahsildar P Narasayya rushed to spot and assured of action against errant staff. G Sigadam PHC in-charge medical officer M Koteswara Rao reported the issue to district officials concerned and pacified the agitators by assuring to take action against medical staff and doctors who evaded their duties.
