Visakhapatnam: In the on-going turf war with Roads and Buildings Minister Ch. Ayyanna Patrudu, HRD minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao seemed to have the last laugh by ensuring appointment of his close follower Panchakarla Ramesh Babu as president of the Visakhapatnam rural unit.

The party high command released a list of newly appointed district party presidents as part of reconstituting the organizational structure after the Maha Nadu. When the war with Ayyanna came out in the open following his outbursts over the land scam linking his rival, Ganta established his invincible lobby with the party top brass by seeing his own man in the saddle of district rural president.

Patrudu opposed the appointment of Ramesh Babu tooth and nail by playing local and loyalist card. Panchakarla, MLA from Yelamanchili Assembly segment, is a diehard follower of Ganta Srinivasa Rao. He was one of the clique of Congress leaders with Praja Rajyam Party background who embraced the TDP under the leadership of Ganta before 2014 Assembly elections.

Incidentally, Patrudu steadfastly opposed the entry of `turncoats’. Ramesh Babu, a business magnate, continues to be a legislator right from his stint in the PRP and in the TDP at present with the blessings of the HRD minister.

The elevation of Ganta’s man is obviously viewed as a major setback for Patrudu who is defending the cause of locals in his fight against outsiders represented by Ganta Srinivasa Rao.
