Penukonda: A group of farmers belonging to Chinna Babayapalli village in Somandepalli mandal who were displaced by BHEL industry, threatened to commit suicide if compensation is not paid to them. As many as 30 Dalit agrarian families claim that they have parted their 260 acres for the project.

Till date, not a single penny has been received towards compensation. On the other hand, the BHEL management representatives say they have been executing construction works in the 2000-arce land allotted to the project by the government. The peasants say, they had submitted a memorandum to Tahsildar.

The Tahsildar visited the lands and ordered suspension of works. They say the works have resumed again. The displaced farmers threatened to commit suicide by consuming pesticide if the works aren’t stopped. They appealed to the government officials to come to their aid.
