AP transport minister K Atchannaidu said that to cut down accidents the driver should have good driving skills and should undergo training at a professional driving school. He further said that AP stands at the seventh place in number of accidents in India. He was here to inaugurate the Toyota Driving School (TDS) programme on Thursday.

Speaking on the occasion he said that about 8,500 people die out of average of 23,000 accidents every year and said that road accidents are a big concern for him. All efforts are being made to bring the number of accidents down by 50 percent. He further said that as a transport minister it is a big challenge for him to bring down the number of accidents.
He expressed his happiness in inaugurating TDS and said that drivers trained under professional would help avert accidents with their skills. He said that Vijayawada private lorry association had opened a driving school. About 20,000 drivers have been trained at Darsi of Prakasam district and the government will extend its support, said that minister.
He further said that very strict action would be taken on people caught driving under the influence of alcohol. Additional transport commissioner P Srinivas, Radha Madhav Toyota chairman M Subramanyam, Toyota Kirloskar senior vice president N Radha, Toyota Vijayawada staff and others were present.
