Amaravati: Agriculture Minister Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy said on Monday that loans distributed during former Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy’s regime between 2004-09 was Rs 66,234 crore against Rs 1,93,500 crore distributed by Telugu Desam government in three years between 2014 and 17.

Somireddy said that a target was set to distribute agricultural loans to the tune of Rs 87,400 crore. With this, the total loans will come up to Rs 2,80,900 crore, he said.

Addressing a press conference at the Secretariat at Velagapudi in the backdrop of Y S R Congress president Jagan’s announcement on waiver of farm loans to the tune of Rs 50,000 if the party comes to power and criticism on TDP government’s failure in waiving farm and other loans, the Agriculture Minister said Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu waived agricultural loans up to Rs 50,000 benefiting 26 lakh farmers in the State as a one-time settlement as part of fulfilling its election promise.

On loan waiver to self-help groups, the Minister said the TDP government distributed Rs 6,223 crore to women self-help groups during the past three years and will distribute another Rs 4,000 crore in the coming two years against Rs 650 crore distributed during Y S Rajasekhara Reddy regime.

“Jaganmohan Reddy promised to a pay a pension of Rs 2,000 as the pensioners are supporting TDP government with the timely disbursement of pension of Rs 1,000,” he said.

Criticising Jaganmohan Reddy’s announcement on total prohibition in a phased manner, Somireddy said that the liquor sales rose to Rs 30,000 crore from Rs 3,000 crore when YS Rajasekhara Reddy made the same announcement.
